We need to be challenging the idea of ‘macho’ men being able to be violent, that men can still be strong and dependable but be safe. It’s really important that we rethink the notions of what it means to be masculine or a man” – Grant Pearson, White Ribbon.

In the wake of the rape and murder of Eurydice Dixon, Wavelength looks to tackle the strong issue of violence against women in Australia. The debate about the role that men should play in stopping violence against women has been re-ignited by the original response to the tragedy from the Victorian Police:

“… people need to be aware of their own personal security and just be mindful of their surroundings.”

How can men’s behaviour be changed? What has been already put in place to tackle violence perpetrated by men?

Wavelength talked with Grant Pearson from White Ribbon, a global movement working to end men’s violence against women and also talked to Julie Jones a senior constable from SAPOL who gives advice on how to keep safe until violence against women has been properly addressed.
