“Always seek out like-minded people whether they’re just music fans or actual musicians and creatives because it’s always going to come in handy in the long run. And not just from a networking perspective because it’s also important to meet others that share the same wavelength as you to know you’re not alone in what you’re trying to bring to the table or what world you’re trying to create.” – Music producer and artist, Jon Santos AKA Strict Face.
Awarded the title of Australia’s first and only UNESCO City of Music in 2015, Adelaide’s live music scene is booming. In fact, according to Music SA’s Live Music Census, it’s only getting better. The census showed a 15% increase in gigs and a 34% increase in venues overall compared to 2015. Not to mention we’re pretty unstoppable with the amount of quality musicians and acts coming out of our little ol’ city.
But even looking those figures, starting out can be rough. How do you get your foot in the door in a city everyone knows everyone? Wavelength spoke to musicians Conor Barkway from Hartway and Jon Santos AKA Strict Face to get some pointers.
