Royal Croquet Club returns to Victoria Square / Tarntanyangga for the 2016 Fringe season. The successful fringe venue has plans to be even bigger and better than ’15 with a program of 60 shows and over 150 artists in 6 performance spaces. No doubt the venue’s line-up will add to the already overwhelming amount of FOMO (fear of missing out) during the festival season.
We were lucky enough to get a glimpse of the world-class selection when we attended the official launch at Little Dive Shop’s Crab Shack last week.

Broer and Zus who have a children’s comedy show in this year’s program presented the launch and Anya Anastasia as Marie Antoinette also treated us to a charming musical performance for her show TORTE E MORT: Songs of Cake and Death.

The program has been curated by Stuart Duckworth, Tom Skipper and Sam Weckert (Little Miss Group) along with program producers Sasha Zahra and Louise Clarke. The space will again encompass both sides of the square again with a re-design by award winning designer Geoff Cobham (of Adelaide Festival Barrio and Surrender fame).

Here’s a tiny snippet of the expansive program:

Barbu-Electro Trad Cabaret: a modern dance music infused take on cabaret from Canada’s Cirque Alfonse.

Scotch and Soda: a combination of live musicians and acrobatics with a speak-easy theme. The show is a collaboration between performer Chelsea McGuffin and Lucian McGuiness and the Uncanny Carnival Band.

Briefs: an all male burlesque and circus performance returns to the Royal Croquet Club after winning the Fringe’s Circus & Physical Theatre Award last year. The show expands this year to include Club Briefs a late night party featuring artists and musicians from across the Fringe and Brats Kids Carnival a child friendly acrobatics show.

Half Naked Chef – Burnt To a Crisp: a parody of the modern celebrity cooks complete with food and a custom-built shop front.

This year will again feature a stellar line-up of live music and DJ’s at the open-air stage. Last years event featured the likes of DJ Shadow, Bonobo, Hiatus Kaiyote and Mr Scruff to name just a few so expectations are high for the full music schedule which is due to be announced soon.

RCC will run Feb 12th – Mar 14th tix from Fringe Tix
