It is becoming more and more clear that the production of DJ and audio equipment is a tough industry to be in. Over the years we have lost some genuine greats including the likes of Vestax as they’ve either fallen behind, fallen out of favour or just stopped being profitable. Even arguably the World’s most established DJ brand Pioneer had to get external investment into the business in order to continue to expand and develop their groundbreaking product lines. In the latest shake up in the industry legendary battle mixer and all round tech gurus Rane have been sold to InMusic the owners of the Denon DJ, Numark, and Akai brands.
The Mukilteo, Washington, USA based company announced the sale in a press statement a short while back indicating that the original owners Linda Arink and Dennis Bohn would be retiring once the sale was settled later in the summer. The Denon and Numark brands are well respected so InMusic clearly know what they are doing though their credibility and profile are not of the caliber of the Rane brand they now own. All being well they’ll continue to focus the Rane brand on premium DJ products with a focus on the solid performance and sturdy build that they’re synonymous for but for now manufacturing looks like it will be moved over to the Far East and away from their current Seattle base.
