January and February have gifted us some absolute treats from the music biz, and it only gets better.

Baker Boy – Cool as Hell

After coming onto our radars last year, Baker Boy’s reach and success has exceeded our wildest expectations. Raised in Arnhem Land from the Milingimbi community in the NT, Danzel Baker became the first Aboriginal artist to rap in an Indigenous language. Cool as Hell, Baker Boy’s new track, speaks volumes to his development as an artist. He shows off his vocal range for the first time, and oh boy, it’s bloody fantastic. The tune is fun and an INSTANT mood lifter. Baker Boy has nailed this hit, and seems to be winning at life. I mean, check him out as young Aussie of the year below…

Oliver Heldens and Lenno– This Groove

Speaking of fun and groovy tracks, Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens and Finnish DJ Lenno have released a killer track. The floor-filler boasts deep bass, and takes on the same vocal sample as Nero’sMust Be the Feeling’, from the original 1984 hit ‘Time to Move’ by Carmen. The pair fit these classic vocals with a new and improved club friendly rhythm, all while giving the original song justice. I can say for sure that the lyrics are right, because every time I hear this groove, it makes me wanna move.

Deorro – Wild Like the Wind

Mexican DJ, Deorro, has been releasing a diverse range of tracks lately, with new track Wild Like the Wind only adding to the list. To create this tune, Deorro recorded himself playing his cello and used these samples when producing this hit. We can expect even more diverse and interesting music to come after the co-sign of his label at Ultra Records, providing the freedom to explore his range as an artist.

Theeves – Erase You

The last tune for the week, Erase You, proudly comes from our very own city. The electronic duo that forms Theeves is comprised of Liam Kerr and Kane Hadji. After starting their journey as artists in high school, the 20 year olds have been creating moody, melancholy pop songs ever since. As 18-year-old’s they were awarded number 20 in Fresh’s Top 92 Countdown with their song ‘Sky Tyde’. We love their self-proclaimed genre-fluid style here at fresh, and hope they’re chilling in our next countdown.
