After 14 years of trading, HQ Complex has announced it has closed its doors effective immediately.

HQ Complex was a cornerstone of Adelaide’s nightlife for well over a decade at its old home on the corners of North Terrace and West Terrace. They closed those premises in January 2017 and reopened in a brand new Hindley Street venue in October of that year.

In a statement released today, HQ said it had proven “difficult to replicate the old business model at the new location.” They cited “sluggish” economic activity and increased competition for patrons on Hindley Street as reasons.

The business is rumoured to be going into administration, according to 7NEWS.

HQ Complex has hosted many Fresh 92.7 events including a number of birthday celebrations over the years, and has been a long-term sponsor of the station.

The closure of any live music venue in Adelaide is a sad occasion, but HQ Complex holds a special place in the hearts of many South Australians. Here’s hoping for the continued success of other Hindley Street venues.
