It’s almost time to get ready for the Umbrella: Winter City Sounds festival, which celebrates a diverse range of amazing contemporary music both locally and nationally across the 12th to the 28th of July.

This year has some big events coming through Umbrella: Winter City Sounds, including Scouted and Retro Rave. However, if you find yourself wanting to find some of the smaller and unique events appearing in the festival, here are some events to keep an eye out throughout the two weeks.

  • A Lyric 4 ur Thought (July 12th)

On the opening night, ‘A Lyric 4 ur Thought‘ is a hip hop fundraising event, centered around raising awareness for mental health. A percentage of the money raised on the night will be donated to Headspace. The event will be hosted by performers Homeward Bound, Lenin Marron, Dyspora and Taiaha. You can find ‘A Lyric 4 ur Thought’ at The Jade at 8pm. Tickets are available here.

  • Producer Series (July 15th – 18th)

During the span of one week across mid-July, ‘The Producer Series‘ is a FREE event that creates and provides music for the public in the heart of Rundle Mall. The stage will recreate a bedroom studio aesthetic, surrounded with perspex and equipping the audience with headphones, giving Rundle shoppers an insight into the creative process of making music. While there are so many more artists to be announced, some names will include Luke Millon and Nick O’Conner.

  • Clip Combat (July 18th)

For one night only, Mercury Cinema will present a FREE showing of finalists of the ‘Clip Combat Music Video Competition‘. Back in early June, Music SA put a call out to give aspiring musicians and filmmakers to produce their own original music video, with a winning end goal being a cinema screening during the Umbrella: Winter City Sounds. During the night, there will also be a premiere of the City of Music Documentary by Lewis Brideson and a live performance from Louis Donnarumma. ‘Clip Combat’ will be shown at the Mercury Cinema at 6pm.

  • Lunar Boogie (July 27th)

Taking place towards the end of the festival, ‘Lunar Boogie’ is a space-themed pop-up party exploring futuristic dance music from decades past. Co-hosted by MOD. at UniSA, Adelaide’s future-focused museum of discovery, ‘Lunar Boogie’ forms part of their HEDONISM exhibition program. Headlining the cosmic sounds of the night is Jura Soundsystem. He’ll be joined by Paradise Loft Soundsystem, aka Lewis & Ollie Graham, as well as Fantastic Black Plastic. ‘Lunar Boogie’ will blast off at MOD. at UniSA at 9pm. Tickets are available here.
