With festival season almost upon us, we had a chat to the talented German DJ Robin Schulz about his upcoming Australian trip, his musical inspirations, and his upcoming album “Prayer”.
We hear that your father was a DJ too. What did you learn from him, and how has he inspired you?
Well, my dad was definitely an inspiration to me, but I mainly taught myself (and had a few friends who were also DJ’s to help me learn as well).
You’ve never been to Australia before, so what are you expectations?
I was in Melbourne for 2 small shows in the beginning of November; that was really my first time. This time I will go to Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and many more cities, so I am really excited to see how these festivals are gonna rock!
What should we expect from Robin Schulz at Future Music?
For sure, I will perform a groovy set with all my power to the crowd!
Who have you most enjoyed working with / remixing?
There are so many artists I like to work with, everybody is special to me.
Do you get nervous when playing to such massive crowds? If so, how do you handle that anxiety?
Ohhh yes for sure, I am always nervous before my gigs, but playing in front of so many people I am much more excited to perform.
Do you have a personal favourite track on your debut album “Prayer”? Could you tell us why?
“Sun Goes Down”, this song took me about two months to complete. I remember sitting there working on it last summer, watching the sun go down through my window every day. That’s how I came up with the title. I am really proud of this track. I spent so much time and energy on it, but it was all worth it.
You can catch Robin Schulz during his first ever Australian appearance in February and March at Future Music Festival. Head over to the official website for more details and ticket information.
