Covid has basically got everybody thinking fast and working hard. Faced with an onslaught of closed bars, clubs and events the clubbing/DJ/dance community is doing what it does best, bringing people together through music and celebrating life in adversity.
Dance music culture has always fought to stay alive, battling through the anti-disco movements of the late 70s, to the fiercely independent, hedonistic and resilient gay clubbing scene during the 80s to the steely, anarchistic rave parties of the 90s and beyond the DJs, clubbers and organisers have found every which way to keep on dancing.
In a further iteration of just how flexible and innovative the scene is many DJs have set up home clubs and are streaming DJ sets direct from their personal set ups and studios in order to keep the music alive, to share their sounds with the community and maintain solidarity during the difficult times.
Online DJ streaming isn’t new but the current situation is unique in that there are no public audiences attending a club for these events and lots of major name, professional DJs are taking part. Everybody from John Digweed to Carl Cox has been hooking up their gear to the web and streaming. In a reversal of fortunes the bedroom DJ is back and taking control!
To celebrate this bizarre situation Beatport have organised a 24 hour stream with some of the World’s biggest stars who will be laying down the best beats live from their homes and personal studios. It’s a rare treat and amazing opportunity to have a pro DJ in your living room. Why not hook up to your giant flat screen, turn down the lights and get partying in your home and for those true clubbing feels pour yourself a flat Bacardi and Coke and pour somebody else’s beer down your fave dress.
DJs for the event will include Carl Cox, RÜFÜS DÜ SOL (DJ set), Nina Kraviz, Bonobo, Chris Liebing, A-Trak, Nora En Pure & more.
