Mad March season kicks off with a BANG with everyone’s favourite Adelaide festival, WOMADelaide!

Held in Adelaide’s Botanic Park from Friday the 8th until Monday the 11th of March 2019, it is a weekend filled with the very best in Arts, Music and Dance from around the world!

And next year’s is going to be bigger and better than ever with the Adelaide-only festival announcing over 40 new acts on top of their already lit line-up.

Here are some just to name a few…..

Fatoumata Diawara (Mali) is one of Africa’s favourite modern vocalists, having her big break back in 2011 with her hit album Fatou. This year she has excelled in her artistry, with the release of her album Fenfo, as well as featuring in electronic-duo Disclosure’s new song Ultimatum. Offering chilled African vibes as well as thrilling funk, she is surely an artist that will get you up on your feet for a casual boogie with your mates.

Joining the African queen are The Original Gypsies (France), made up of the key founding members of the popular 80s group, The Gipsy Kings. You may remember them from their hit song Bambolèo and their popular up-beat cover of the classic Italian song Volare. After 20 years apart, the band will reunite and showcase their iconic Spanish rhythmic sounds and perform all of their smash hits. Get ready because their fiery flamenco tunes and the electric strum of their guitars will get you moving those hips and feet like never before.

Love some alternative rock? Well get excited because Liz Phair (USA) is joining the crew! Her influence on the grunge world is still felt today and this year she is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her 1993 album Exile in Guyville, which was ranked in the top 500 albums of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine (whoa talk about a big achievement).

These don`t appeal to you? Well, do not stress because there are plenty more artists to feast your eyes and ears on, from those who flourish in jazz, to electronic rock, techno beats, folk music and loads more!!

In the words of WOMADelaide director, Ian Scobie, “Only in Adelaide and only at WOMADelaide can audiences experience the sights, sounds and delights of cultures from over 40 countries presented by over 600 artists across 69 groups in one amazing weekend, which also demonstrates why Adelaide is Australia’s only UNESCO City of Music”.
