Be honest – when you watched the movie Dodgeball with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn, you might’ve had a passing thought about what it would be like to play the sport competitively. Or maybe it was those primary school PE classes where you got to throw balls at your classmates, all in the name of fun!

It’s becoming a growing community here in Adelaide, known for it’s action-packed, adrenaline-fueled and fast-paced nature.

So what’s it actually like to play at a competitive level?

Anthony Dodd spoke to the founders of the Adelaide Dodgeball Community Group. Founded by Jacques Ryan and Rosie Everett, it’s Adelaide’s only Dodgeball league, running mixed leagues across the state. They’re looking at starting up youth and kids leagues as well!

If you’ve been living under a rock, or simply don’t remember the game back from your primary school days, dodgeball is a game made up of two teams of six people. In order to win, a team must eliminate all players from the other team by throwing balls at them, or catching the throws from the opposing team’s players.

Adelaide Dodgeball is easy to join. If you’re not interested in competing in a league, you can hire the company for functions, fundraisers and parties! They also have a bunch of events throughout the year, including Come and Try days, Halloween and Glow-in-the-dark Dodgeball!

Dodd also speaks to one of the community’s young players about what it’s all about!
