The Presets Downtown Shutdown

The Godfathers of Australian electronic music, The Presets, have dropped another track from their fourth upcoming album Hi-Viz, due for release on June 1. Downtown Shutdown is a funky, disco party protest tune featuring vocals from St Paul’s Lutheran Church Choir from Shepparton in rural Victoria, consisting of refugees from Burundi, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

No strangers to producing powerful protest pieces, with their most notable track My People (2007) showing their solidarity for refugees, this latest track from the Sydney duo protests the unfairness of their local lock-out laws and the “power imbalance and the motives behind a government’s decisions.

The video features none other than bass-playing funklord Touch Sensitive grooving along with the choir in a colourful array of dance-in-the-streets party vibes. The Presets are touring their new album next month and will be playing an all-ages gig at The Thebby on Friday June 15, supported by Roland Tings. Get your tickets here, it’s gonna be a wild one!
